Happy Independence Day! The hottest holiday of the year here in the US. Most will want to cookout on the grill. If this is you, let me give you a guide to what makes a successful festive Fourth!
Let’s start off with the theme, obviously patriotic, with red, white and blue colors for decorations to include tablecloths, banners, plates, napkins, cutlery and flowers if so desired.
Next in the planning process are the food and drinks. Serving the classics is the way to go in my book. Burgers, hot dogs, barbeque chicken, and salads—such as potato, pasta, macaroni, green, and fruit salads—are all excellent options., as well as coleslaw, baked beans and deviled eggs. Chips and dips, veggie and fruit trays are also an easy dish to grab at the store. If you want to enhance your menu you can cook some delicious steaks or even prepare an elaborate charcuterie board. When planning for beverages it is a guaranteed easy route to take if you just fill a cooler with sodas, bottled waters, beer and seltzers. You can also consider filling a large beverage dispenser with lemonade or a signature cocktail. If you want to provide a dessert or two some good options are root beer floats, a fruit pizza with sugar cookie dough or an ice box cake. There are also plenty of store-bought options like cookies, cupcakes, pies, etc.
It is a good idea to provide an activity or game to entertain your guests. Some possibilities to consider are bocce, horseshoes, cornhole, giant jenga or a slip-n-slide for the kids! I personally cannot celebrate this holiday without putting off a few firecrackers in my cul-de-sac. Most cities and towns have regulations either for or against this activity. Be sure to check with your local laws before making this call.
Lastly, there are some important factors to think about like making sure you have enough seating and shade available for all your guests. It is also a good idea to check the local forecast and have a backup plan if there is rain or severe weather.
One last hot tip, I personally like to use ecofriendly disposable dinnerware to make cleanup so much easier!
Now that you have read this guide, you should have all you need to prepare properly for a very successful Fourth of July event! Enjoy yourself!
