Hosting an Easter Gathering

Hosting Guides By Gina Holzer

After six long weeks of Lent, Easter is finally here! We are going to gather with family and friends and celebrate new life and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and apparently it is your turn to host this joyful gathering😉. If you are wondering where to start or are worried about forgetting something, keep reading and I will guide you in the right direction.

Food and drinks are at the top of the list as far as priorities. If you are a real go-getter and want to prepare every item served, well good for you! Hopefully, you will have a helpful kitchen hand to wash dishes and do the clean up! If you have no intention of handling it all on your own, there is no shame! A good old-fashioned potluck is completely acceptable. If you are throwing a brunch some classic suggestions are cinnamon rolls, oven roasted potatoes, sausage egg and cheese casserole, quiche and deviled eggs. Also, I personally feel a fruit salad of some sort is a must regardless of the time of day you are having your meal. Classic dinner options include glazed ham or leg of lamb, vegetables such as asparagus, carrots, scalloped potatoes, steamed broccoli and cauliflower with cheese sauce and dinner rolls.

Desserts to consider are carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, any type of fruit pie or cream pie

Drink ideas would include water, coffee, iced tea, sweet tea, juice, white wine, white wine, sangria or anything else that sounds good to you.

Of course, these are classic ideas. Feel free to improvise or add any of your family favorites.

Decorations are not a must but will add a nice touch to your Easter gathering. Items like crosses, butterflies, baskets of eggs, springtime animals such as rabbits and birds, candles and fresh flowers are sure to add a festive splash of Easter.

To make things fun you can incorporate some games and/or activities. An Easter egg hunt is an obvious option with prizes (candy, money, bible verses, etc.) inside each egg as well as bunny hop races and Easter bingo. To keep the religious theme you can plant flowers to symbolize new growth.

As you can see it does not take a lot to put together an Easter gathering as long as you plan ahead and have a general vision of what you want yours to look like. Happy Easter! Enjoy yourself!
